Faculty Perspective
“I joined KCIS in 2022, after having taught at another private high school in Taiwan for 6 years. The aspect of the school culture at KCIS which I appreciate the most is the warm, respectful, collaborative, and supportive climate, from an international perspective, due to the multitude of countries which are represented by the faculty.”
Mr. A. Salter
“KCIS is a school that protects learning. Students come to school with the expectation that they will be required to put in effort, and overall students put in that effort. We have stable resources and funding. Teachers are encouraged to try new things and share their experiences. Administration plays a supportive role by protecting instructional time and teacher professionalism. Our school offers a variety of curricula which provide both autonomy and challenge to our learners. KCIS is a great place to work because it attends carefully to the core elements that make schools function well.”
Mr. D. Warner
“Since joining the Xiugang campus in 2023, I have been deeply impressed by a culture that truly champions freedom of speech and treats every staff member with fairness and respect. The school’s commitment to equity is evident in how management values our professional decisions, creating an environment entirely free of favoritism. My own growth has been shaped by invaluable mentoring sessions with senior teachers, where the ability to choose a mentor tailored to my needs provided immense support.”
Mrs. A.S. Irfan
“Kang Chiao is a wonderful school to work at where teachers and students feel included, encouraged and supported in striving to achieve the school's goals of creating lifelong learners and future leaders. Our campus provides an excellent learning environment for our students and results in teachers remaining at our school for many years. Our dedicated staff ensure that teachers feel inspired to develop as educators and further provide ongoing development, to an already outstanding school.”
Mr. C. Mitchell
“Having taught at four different schools in Taiwan and the US, I think that what sets KCIS apart, other than the incredible views afforded on our campus, is the positivity, respect, and caring that I see every day, from the school leadership and faculty, the parents and students, all the way to our custodial staff and cafeteria workers. While teaching can be challenging, I have never been at a school where I felt my work was more rewarding than at KCIS.”
Mr. L. Ewert
“As a Haitian-American educator who has spent the past decade living and working abroad, joining the KCIS community five years ago has been one of the most seamless and rewarding decisions of my professional journey. At KCIS, I have had the privilege of teaching I&S in Grades 7–10 while also serving in leadership roles. Throughout this time, the administration and my colleagues have consistently fostered a culture of collaboration and support, grounded in an authentic open-door policy.”
Ms. K. Eloissaint
“Beyond the students, my colleagues are exceptional. I truly enjoy working alongside educators from diverse nationalities, each bringing unique perspectives, expertise, and professionalism to our community. I also deeply respect the leadership team for fostering such a strong sense of unity and collaboration among staff from many different cultural backgrounds. It is an absolute privilege to be part of this community. I am proud to work here, and I genuinely love what I do.”
Ms. M. Viljoen
“What sets our school apart as a place to work? Definitely its location! It's located outside the city, where there is no heavy traffic or pollution. The school has a beautiful campus. There is a lot of green in and around the school. Green has a soothing effect on the mind, and the nature park is a big plus to experience "green".”
Mrs. H. Dollenberg
“The faculty and staff have been nothing but kind, and supportive. There has been an understanding and respect for other cultures and identities fostered in the workplace, in which teachers can be themselves in their teaching.
I have been incredibly grateful for the support I've been provided with at Kang Chiao Xiugang Campus with continuing my own studies, acknowledging my professionalism, and understanding my shortcomings as a human being.”
Mrs. K. Thomas
“Since joining Kang Chiao in 2020, it has been incredibly rewarding to teach friendly and engaging students, and to learn a great deal by working with supportive coworkers and administration. In this environment, I have been able to grow both as a teacher and as a person. The school’s warm atmosphere and scenic campus in the mountains, with a nature park and excellent facilities, make it a great place to work every day.”
Mr. A. Spearman
“Kang Chiao has an exceptional work/life balance. There’s more than enough time each week for faculty members to complete the tasks related to their classes – prep, grading, etc. – so they don’t need to bring any work home. There’s also a respectful balance of how work is allocated, to ensure that people don’t get burned out, take on too much, or get saddled with responsibilities that they’re not interested in.”
Mr. D. Wright
“Since 2011, my experience has been one of steady support and trust. Thank you, Kang Chiao International School – Xiugang Campus, for creating a space where I have been able to grow as both a teacher and a leader.”
Dr. J. Billones
