Learning

Learning that connects knowledge, purpose, and the world beyond school.

At Kang Chiao Xiugang Campus, learning is intentionally designed and standards-based. Across all secondary programs, curriculum is anchored in clearly defined learning standards and performance expectations. Students are not only introduced to concepts; they are guided toward deep understanding, application, and reflection.

As an International Baccalaureate school offering the MYP and DP, alongside Advanced Placement courses and a U.S.-aligned senior high pathway, our programs are rigorous and internationally benchmarked. While students may pursue different academic routes, coherence is maintained through a shared curriculum design framework that ensures clarity of learning goals, alignment of instruction, and meaningful assessment.

We use backward design in planning. Units begin with clear learning outcomes and performance criteria, and instruction is structured to support students in achieving those outcomes. Assessment is aligned with standards and intended understandings, ensuring that evaluation reflects what students are expected to know and be able to do.

Across programs, curriculum mapping and constructive alignment support consistency from grade to grade. This ensures that learning is cumulative, purposeful, and connected. Students build knowledge progressively while developing critical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to apply learning in varied contexts.

Learning extends beyond the classroom through experiences that foster resilience, collaboration, and responsibility. Academic rigor is complemented by experiential learning, service, leadership opportunities, and interdisciplinary inquiry.

Our approach reflects a commitment to:

  • Standards-based curriculum grounded in clear learning outcomes
  • Backward design that aligns instruction and assessment
  • Inquiry and reflection as central learning practices
  • Multiple academic pathways within a coherent framework
  • Continuous curriculum review and improvement

Our Curriculum Framework

01

Standards-Based

Clear academic standards and performance expectations guide what students learn and how mastery is measured.

02

Backward Designed

Units begin with defined learning outcomes; instruction and assessment are intentionally aligned to those goals.

03

Aligned Across Programs

IB MYP, IB DP, AP, and the senior high pathway operate within a shared design framework that ensures coherence from Grades 7–12.

04

Inquiry-Driven

Students engage in questioning, analysis, and application to deepen understanding across disciplines.

05

Continuously Reviewed

Curriculum is regularly mapped, analyzed, and refined to maintain rigor, relevance, and alignment with accreditation expectations.

What Does “Curriculum” Mean at Kang Chiao?

Our curriculum is the planned learning experience that guides what students learn, how they learn, and how their learning develops over time. Learning extends beyond textbooks and classrooms, supporting academic growth, personal development, and real-world application.

What Students Learn
Standards and Learning Goals

Learning is guided by internationally recognized standards and program frameworks that define what students should know, understand, and be able to do at each stage. Learning goals are clearly sequenced to ensure progression, depth, and coherence across subjects and year levels.

How Students Learn
Instruction and Learning Design

Teaching emphasizes understanding, inquiry, and application. Students learn through questioning, discussion, collaboration, and problem-solving, rather than memorization alone. Lessons are designed with clear goals and meaningful outcomes in mind.

How Learning Is Supported
Resources and Learning Tools

Learning is supported through a balanced use of texts, technology, laboratories, studios, projects, and experiential opportunities. Digital tools are used purposefully to support research, communication, reflection, and collaboration.

How Learning Is Assessed
Feedback and Progress

Assessment supports learning and growth. Teachers use ongoing feedback, observation, and discussion alongside projects, presentations, and examinations to understand student progress and guide next steps. Schoolwide assessments help monitor growth over time.

How the Curriculum Is Designed
Coherence and Purpose

The curriculum is student-centered and holistic, integrating academic rigor with critical thinking, creativity, well-being, and global awareness. Ongoing refinement focuses on inclusivity, equity, and digital citizenship to ensure learning remains relevant and responsive.

Assurance of Quality

Kang Chiao International School–Taipei Campus holds full accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, granted through June 2030 following a successful joint evaluation process. During the same cycle, the school also completed its International Baccalaureate programme evaluation with positive outcomes, confirming continued authorization to offer both the IB Middle Years Programme and the IB Diploma Programme under the International Baccalaureate Organization.

These processes provide external assurance that our curriculum, teaching, assessment, and student support systems meet internationally recognized standards, and that the school remains committed to ongoing reflection, improvement, and educational quality.

Learning and Teaching Tools

Our learning and teaching are supported by a carefully selected set of platforms and resources that enhance instruction, assessment, collaboration, and student reflection.
