Junior High

Welcome to
Kang Chiao Junior High

Junior High marks a significant transition in a student’s academic and personal growth. For many students, Grade 7 brings a new campus, new expectations, and a more independent learning environment. We provide structure, guidance, and a strong sense of belonging to support this transition.

Academically, students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), engaging in inquiry-based, standards-aligned learning that builds conceptual understanding across subjects. As expectations increase each year, students develop essential learning skills in organization, collaboration, critical thinking, and reflection, preparing them for greater academic challenge in senior high.

Learning at Kang Chiao extends beyond the classroom. Exploration experiences at each grade level challenge students physically and mentally, fostering resilience, teamwork, and perseverance. Through shared preparation and reflection, students grow in confidence while building strong relationships with peers and teachers.

Junior High at Xiugang is designed to build foundations, academically, socially, and personally.

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

Kang Chiao International School–Xiugang Campus is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16. The MYP provides a rigorous, standards-based framework that supports students through the critical years of early adolescence, balancing academic challenge with personal growth.

The programme emphasizes inquiry and conceptual understanding. Students explore big ideas across disciplines and learn to connect their studies to real-world issues through global contexts. Rather than treating subjects as isolated, the MYP encourages interdisciplinary thinking, helping students see relationships between knowledge areas.

Students study a broad range of subjects, develop proficiency in more than one language, and engage in service as action. Throughout the programme, structured learning skills support organization, critical thinking, collaboration, and reflection. These foundations prepare students for the increased academic demands of Senior High and for success in a variety of future pathways.

Cultivating Community Through Homeroom
and Student Support

At Kang Chiao Junior High, community and care are built into the structure of each school day and week. In addition to the House system, every student belongs to a homeroom that remains constant from Grade 7 through Grade 12. This continuity allows students to build long-term relationships with peers and a homeroom teacher who understands their growth, challenges, and needs over time.

Homeroom meets daily in the morning and during lunch, providing regular space for check-ins, guidance, and connection. These moments help students establish routines, organize their learning, and feel grounded as they adjust to increasing independence and responsibility.
