Student Leadership and Clubs
Leadership at Xiugang is practiced throughout campus life. Students serve as Student Council representatives, House captains, class leaders, and club chairs, but leadership is not limited to titles. In activities and tasks, whether school-assigned or student-initiated, students are expected to take responsibility, organize peers, and follow through on commitments. Leadership is learned through action.

In-period Clubs
Junior and senior high students participate in two in-period club sessions each week within a structured framework that supports sustained involvement. Clubs are organized across seven areas:
Academic and Innovation
Clubs in this area encourage inquiry, experimentation, and problem solving. Students may engage in robotics, AI programming, creative science projects, coding, multimedia production, or research-based groups.
Global Citizenship and Leadership
These clubs focus on service, diplomacy, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility. Examples include Model United Nations, service teams, SDG initiatives, entrepreneurship simulation, and ambassador programs.
Arts, Culture, and Creative Expression
Students explore craftsmanship, cultural traditions, and artistic practice through activities such as leather craft, metalworking, calligraphy, cultural exchange clubs, and creative arts groups.
Performing Arts and School Spirit
Performance-centered groups cultivate stage presence and collaboration. Students may join dance teams, cheer squads, or music-based performance groups that contribute to campus events and celebrations.
Games and Strategy
These clubs develop analytical thinking and strategic planning through chess, board games, competitive strategy activities, and logic-based competitions.
Lifestyle and Wellness
Clubs in this category promote balance and wellbeing. Students may participate in yoga, fitness training, baking, or other activities that support personal development and healthy routines.
Sports and Athletics
Students engage in competitive and recreational sports, including basketball, soccer, rugby, volleyball, canoe polo, badminton, tennis, and strength training..
Across all domains, clubs are structured yet student-driven. Members plan activities, collaborate toward shared goals, and take ownership of their participation. Through sustained engagement, students develop initiative, teamwork, and accountability within a vibrant campus community.
After-School Clubs and Teams
After-school programs allow students to extend their interests beyond the academic timetable and commit to deeper training and competitive preparation. These activities require sustained discipline, teamwork, and performance under external standards.
While in-period clubs emphasize exploration, after-school teams focus on specialization and advancement. Students train consistently, refine technique, and represent the school in regional and national competitions.
Athletic Teams
After-school athletic teams include canoe polo, basketball, triathlon, swimming, dragon boat, and other competitive sports. Training takes place throughout the week and often extends to weekends during competition season.
Participation builds physical endurance, strategic thinking, and resilience. Students learn to perform under pressure, support teammates, and uphold collective responsibility. Competitive seasons reinforce discipline, time management, and long-term commitment.
Academic and Innovation Teams
Selected students participate in advanced academic or engineering teams that prepare for science fairs, robotics competitions, and other external challenges. These teams require focused practice, technical refinement, and collaborative preparation beyond regular class hours.
After-school clubs and teams transform interest into mastery. Students move from participation to commitment, from practice to public representation. Through sustained effort and competitive experience, they develop confidence, perseverance, and the discipline required to excel beyond campus.
Orchestra
In addition to athletics, Kang Chiao also offers performance-oriented school teams. The campus has established a Symphony Orchestra, String Ensemble, and Chamber Music Groups. Students in grades 7–12 who demonstrate musical talent are invited to audition for these ensembles. Members receive high-quality music instruction and regularly participate in events such as the annual National Student Music Competition, where they have achieved outstanding results.
Triathlon Team
Different to the team sports of canoe polo and basketball, triathlons are all about the individual. Our team members need to complete 1.5km of swimming, 40km of cycling, and 10km of running. Our team members competed in three triathlon competitions this year, and won multiple places in the 15 year age group. There are also 14 new certified triathletes who completed their first races.
Basketball Team
Our basketball team made it to the quarter-finals in the Senior High Basketball League this year, and hosted several exhibition games. We had friendly matches with Singapore Temasek Junior High School and Taipei American School. We also hosted the KCIS Cup Basketball Tournament, and invited basketball team members from Linkou and Hsinchu Campuses to compete against each other.
Canoe Polo Team
The canoe polo team performed well this school year in three national contests and one international competition in Malaysia. The team took first place 7 times, second place 4 times, and third place once. At the competition in Kuala Lumpur, our team members competed with 8 teams over three consecutive days, and won a gold and a bronze medal.
Football (Soccer) Team
Football is the world’s most popular sport, combining teamwork, strategy, and passion. Through structured training and hands-on experience, students can build physical strength, teamwork, and discipline. We are committed to promoting a vibrant football culture, giving students the opportunity to shine on the field and experience the joy and accomplishment that sports bring.
Swimming Team
Swimming appears to be a series of repeated movements, but it actually develops physical skills as well as cardiovascular health in students. Water sports are low-impact. The buoyancy of the water reduces the effect of body weight and facilitates the building of core strength and joint movement. Swimming promotes muscular control and the coordination of movement in students.
