Academic Advising and Progress

Academic advising at Xiugang is designed to help students make purposeful decisions about their learning. Course offerings are aligned with emerging career pathways and university expectations, allowing students to select subjects that reflect both interest and long-term direction.

Students are not left to navigate these decisions alone. Each homeroom is supported by a designated counselor who meets with students regularly, with increased guidance in Grade 11 as academic specialization and postsecondary planning become more defined. These meetings focus on pathway alignment, workload balance, and readiness for advanced coursework.

The Department of Academic Affairs oversees the course selection process and monitors academic progress throughout the year. Students receive structured information sessions before making selections, and placements in advanced courses are reviewed carefully to ensure appropriate challenge. When concerns arise, academic leaders, counselors, and teachers coordinate early support.

Advising at Xiugang is therefore both aspirational and accountable. Students are encouraged to pursue areas of interest, while systems are in place to ensure that choices remain realistic, aligned, and sustainable.
