About Us

KCIS - Xiugang Campus

...

Kang Chiao International School – Xiugang Campus is a Grades 7–12 learning community grounded in academic rigor, holistic development, and global perspective. Students engage in the IB Middle Years Programme, IB Diploma Programme, Advanced Placement courses, and a U.S.-aligned senior high pathway designed to prepare them for university and life beyond school.

Learning here is purposeful and demanding. Students are encouraged to think critically, communicate across cultures, and take ownership of their growth. Within a structured and supportive environment, they develop resilience, independence, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Our community brings together students, families, and educators who value inquiry, balance, and respect. Academic challenge is paired with opportunities in the arts, athletics, service, and experiential learning so that growth extends beyond the classroom.

Who We Are

Kang Chiao was founded on the belief that education should extend beyond examination performance. At a time when schooling was increasingly shaped by test-driven definitions of success, our founders envisioned a model that combined academic strength with curiosity, balance, and meaningful learning.

From this foundation, Kang Chiao developed into a K–12 system committed to international education and whole-person development. Learning is designed to move beyond memorization toward understanding, application, and reflection. Students are given space to discover strengths, pursue interests, and grow through both structured study and authentic experiences.

Kang Chiao International School was established to serve families seeking internationally recognized academic pathways. Our programs emphasize inquiry, coherence, and academic integrity, supported by systems that promote physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being. Students learn to navigate multiple perspectives, engage global issues, and contribute thoughtfully in diverse contexts.

Today, the school continues to refine its programs and practices in alignment with national and international standards, maintaining a clear focus on quality, accountability, and student growth.

Campus and Facilities

Spaces Designed to Support Learning, Wellbeing, and Growth

Set within the forested hills of Xindian, the Xiugang Campus is designed to support learning across academic, creative, physical, and residential life. Surrounded by natural landscapes, the campus offers students space to focus, explore, and grow in an environment that balances structure with openness.

Learning spaces at Xiugang are designed to support different ways of thinking, creating, practicing, and performing. From laboratories and maker spaces to studios, classrooms, and independent learning areas, each space is intentionally designed to support hands-on inquiry, focused study, collaboration, and creative expression. These environments allow learning to move beyond a single format and respond to the varied demands of academic, artistic, and experiential programs.

History

Our Journey

Xiugang Campus represents the starting point of a larger educational journey. While Kang Chiao has since grown into a multi-campus school system, the ideas, structures, and culture that shaped its development first took root in Xiugang.

Between 2000 and 2009, the school moved through periods of uncertainty, experimentation, and steady growth. These early years laid the foundation for a vertically aligned Grades 7–12 secondary program grounded in bilingual education, global awareness, and whole-child development. What sustained the campus was the collective effort of faculty, staff, families, and students who believed that education should cultivate depth of understanding, strength of character, and long-term purpose.

Readers who wish to explore the earliest history of Kang Chiao as a bilingual institution may learn more here.

The origins of Xiugang Campus can be traced to mid-2000, during a nine-day journey to Jiuzhaigou undertaken by Chairman Li and Principal Zhang Qilong. Through sustained discussion, a shared educational vision emerged. Upon returning, Xiugang Mountain Villa was selected as the campus site, marking the physical and symbolic beginning of the school.
